Cedar Creek Winery Kelowna
The story is the vision of Senator Ross Fitzpatrick for Cedar Creek. Born and raised in the Okanagan, the future senator worked at MacLean & Fitzpatrick, a fruit packaging and shipping company, alongside his father in the 1940s and 1950s.
Despite spending three decades away from the valley due to his studies and work, he returned in 1986 to the city of Kelowna BC. He purchased his first Okanagan Valley winery and vineyard on a site overlooking Okanagan Lake. At the time, few people believed that wine could be made in the valley, let alone wine that could compete with the best in the world. He was a pioneer in the planting of vinifera grape types for premium wine production.
The senator’s idea for the 50-acre Home Block Vineyard is being honoured today. Taylor Whelan, a winemaker with three decades of experience, writes a new chapter with estate-grown, organic wines.
Cedar Creek is family-owned and runs a winery in British Columbia’s magnificent Okanagan Valley, just south of Kelowna. Cedar Creek’s staff is dedicated to producing high-quality wines in British Columbia. From the vineyard to the bottle, wines made by family members are crafted with care and attention to detail.
By paying close attention to all areas of viticulture and winemaking, Cedar Creek elevates wine from product to craft: land selection, varietal selection, clones, rootstocks, pruning, cropping, hang time, press method, barrels, time in oak, blending, and bottle aging.
This was one of BC’s original eight pioneering wineries, releasing their first wines in 1987. This Okanagan has some of the best wines in the valley and has twice been awarded “Canada’s Winery of the Year.”
Cedar Creek Estate Winery is built on connections, both to the land we care for and to the Okanagan Valley, which we call home. Winemaker Taylor Whelan is defining a new chapter with bright, expressive north Okanagan Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and aromatic white wines, such as gewürztraminer, Ehrenfelser, Chardonnay, Platinum Haynes Creek Viognier, Platinum Desert Ridge Meritage, and others, on a fifty-acre property along the shores of Lake Okanagan.
